Your actions will help make a difference to people who desperately want to get out of their current housing situation and into a stable, secure, comfortable, home of their own. Where they can grow roots in the neighborhood, have a feeling they belong somewhere, and will become an asset to their community.
“The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.”
Mohandas Gandhi (1869-1948)
The world is experiencing a global housing crisis. In the United States alone, 95 million people have housing problems. Clean, decent, and stable housing provides more than just a roof over someone’s head. Housing is a great means of wealth creation. Good housing attracts economic investment and development. The current housing market in and around Woodland Park is geared toward higher incomes than those incomes earned by many employees who work in Teller County. Service jobs pay among the lowest wages of other industries in the County (averaging $22,000 in 2004) and will place additional strain on already scarce affordable rentals and entry-level ownership housing. (Source: TellerCounty Housing Needs Assessment) The current additional needed units by 2015 is between 237-281.
We partner with as many families as possible, but the problem of inadequate housing has reached critical proportions in our community. Your donation helps to build affordable housing for families in need, providing them with shelter and the hope of a better life.
“The proper aim of giving is to put the recipients in a state where they no longer need our gifts.”
— C.S. Lewis (The Four Loves, 1960)
